General plant care tips
Watering
Most plants die from overwatering rather than underwatering. Always check the soil before watering β stick your finger an inch into the soil and only water if it feels dry.
Light
Bright indirect light suits most houseplants. Direct sun can scorch leaves, while too little light causes leggy, pale growth. A spot a metre from a south-facing window is usually ideal.
Drainage
Always use pots with drainage holes. Sitting in waterlogged soil causes root rot, which is one of the most common causes of plant death. Empty saucers after watering.
Feeding
Feed your plants with a liquid fertiliser every 2β4 weeks during spring and summer when they're actively growing. Hold off in autumn and winter when growth slows down.
Temperature
Most houseplants prefer stable temperatures between 15β25Β°C. Keep them away from cold draughts, radiators, and air conditioning units which can cause stress and leaf drop.
Repotting
Repot when roots start growing out of drainage holes or the plant dries out very quickly after watering. Spring is the best time to repot into a pot one size larger.
